Helene M. Youskites

Helene M. Youskites, 96, of Ashland passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 24, 2024.  She was born in Ashland on May 16, 1927 to John E. and Helena (Tappe) Gabel.  She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. 

Helene graduated from Ashland High School in 1944 and worked as a bookkeeper for Ashland Shirt Company before her retirement.  She and her husband, John, were founding members of the Northumberland Boat Club and enjoyed camping and boating on the Susquehanna River for many years.  Helene also enjoyed crossword puzzles, Scrabble, Bunco, trips to the Poconos, and spending time with her family. 

Helene was preceded in death by her husband, John, of 57 years; a daughter Judith; a sister Anna Beck; and two brothers Joseph Gabel and John Gabel; She was the last member of her immediate family and currently holds the family record for longest lifespan.  Helene is survived by many nieces and nephews.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 12:00 noon.  Interment will follow in St. Mauritius Cemetery in Ashland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 - 1942.
