Gary Genth Obituary

Gary Genth, 68, of Selinsgrove, passed away peacefully at his home, Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024, after a VALIANT 14-month battle with extensive cancer.

Gary was born Sept. 7, 1955, in Abington Heights, Philadelphia, a son of the late, John C. Genth and L. Phyllis (Wunsch) Genth of Sunbury. On Oct. 5, 1996, Gary married Dawn (Reigle) who preceded him in death in 2011.

Gary, also known as “Farmer Boy,” graduated from Shikellamy High School in 1974, after which he attended Bloomsburg University for a brief period majoring in psychology. He later decided to become an entrepreneur and was best known for his amazing food dishes at his beloved restaurant, Dawn’s Luncheonette, in Selinsgrove. He later went back to his roots as a farm manager for Kreamer Feed before retiring to the countryside to spend time with his beloved grandkids.

Gary was a hard worker and wouldn’t hesitate to give you the shirt off his back. He never complained about his health and was a warrior to the very end. His favorite pastimes included playing pool, hunting Ginseng, catching his favorite TV show, “Big Bang Theory” or spending time with his friends at the local watering hole. He also enjoyed family trips to the beach, and celebrating his birthday in Atlantic City this past year. He was a lifetime member of the Kratzerville Fire Company, three-time governor of the Selinsgrove Moose, Past Moose District 89 VP, a Moose Fellow and a Son of the American Legion.

He is survived by his four loving daughters, Cheyenne Brosious, Lindsay Kessler, Megan McRae, Erin Feist and stepson, Chase Gordon, along with their companions. In addition, he leaves behind his adored grandchildren, Addie, Grace, Madison, Olivia, Sully, Tristan, Potter, Oliver and Cohen; and two brothers, Bruce C. Genth and John E. Genth.

At Gary’s request there will not be a funeral service. Per his wishes family and friends are invited to the Selinsgrove Moose banquet hall at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24, to celebrate Gary’s life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Selinsgrove Moose in his honor.

The family would like to thank the fantastic staff at Dr. Patel’s office for their compassionate care. Thank you for helping us give Dad more time for family adventures!
