Obituary for Harry White

Harry White
Harry A. White, Jr., 90, of Berwick, formerly of Mt. Carmel, PA passed away Sunday, April 16th, 2017 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA.
Born in Ashland, PA October 21, 1926 the son of the late Harry A. White, Sr. and Emily ( Wesner) White. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He was a WWII Veteran in the Merchant Marines. He was presented with a high school diploma from Mt. Carmel School District in a special Veterans Day Program. He should have graduated in 1945 but he left the area in 1943 prior to his junior year to enlist in the Merchant Marines. He became a machinist second class with the combat Marines and was involved in the Atlantic Campaign during WWII. He served on a cargo vessel that was used to search for German submarines. He also filled in if a chaplain wasn't available. He served two terms as President in the Joint Veteran's Committee. He served in the Color Guard, Honor Guard, and Rifle Guard. He was a former member of the Mt. Carmel Fire Police. He was a member of the Sons of Union Vets. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 91, Mt. Carmel; Life member of the Clover Hose Co.; The Elks BPOE and the Lithuanian Club all of Mt. Carmel, PA. He was a drummer in various area bands for over 17 years. He was a canvas artist, and enjoyed fishing, boating, shuffleboard and darts.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sophia Sodrick whom he married July 17, 1954. He is survived by his daughter Marilyn Kishbaugh and her husband Carl, Berwick, PA and a brother Norman White, Harrisburg, PA.
Funeral Services will be held at the Willard A. Rothermel Funeral Home, Mt. Carmel, PA, at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 21st, with Rev. Rose Marquardt officiating.
Interment at Mt. Carmel Cemetery , Mt. Carmel, PA. Viewing on Thursday, April 20, 2017 6:00-8:00 PM and 10:00-11:00 AM at the funeral home. Willard A. Rothermel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Charles Heizenroth III, FD Ray Rothermel, Supervisor.
