Obituary for Frederick Shingara
Frederick "Fritz" Shingara, 75, Irish Valley, Shamokin, PA, passed away Monday, March 27, 2017 at his home.
Born in Shamokin, PA July 8, 1941 the son of the late Stephen and Lottie (Nye) Shingara. He was a member of Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church, Elysburg, PA. He started deep mining when he was 16, and was a self employed coal miner for 45 years. He was the owner and operator of the Raven Coal Company, Trevorton, PA. He was a visionary who hand built a family cabin in the Poe Valley Mountains. He enjoyed vehicle restoration and tinkering with antique machinery. Fritz's greatest accomplishment was being a rock and instilling love, faith, and pride in his family, from his siblings, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Marcy Ann (Zaner) Shingara, whom he married on February 11, 1961; Four children: Diane "Dee" Shiko, wife of David, Irish Valley; Frederick D, "Fritz" Shingara, Irish Valley, Daniel Shingara, husband of Tehani, Irish Valley, and Marcy Ann Stump wife of Larry, Coal Township. 14 Grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren. Also surviving are siblings: Christine (Teeny) Yost, Edward Shingara, Margaret Conrad, Sarah Shovlin, and Daniel Shingara.
Preceding him in death was a daughter: Susan Shingara; Three brothers: Michael Shingara, Stephen Shingara and Jack Shingara and two sisters : Daisy Yost and Elizabeth Williams.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Parish Center of the Queen of Most Holy Rosary Church, Elysburg, PA. with Rev, Joseph Scanlin officiating. Interment in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Shamokin, PA. Visitation from 9:00-11:00 AM Friday at the church.
